The Kitchen III

And we have a kitchen! Well, depending on your definition. We have an oven that works, we have a sink that works, and we have a microwave that works....we should have a fridge this weekend as well, and we have a washing machine, it's just not plumbed in yet! What we don't have is flooring, or tiles or paint or wallpaper. So if you look at the photo's use your imagination!

Ahh, a working kitchen sink.

Kitchen cupboards, a wine rack, microwave, and space for the washing machine...it's coming together!
More cupboards, lots of space for all sorts of kitcheny stuff!

It would definetely look better with some wallpaper or paint!

We still have to put the hood over the stove

You can see the gloss shining, aww ain't it pretty?

A couple of wine racks and an oven, perfect for a night of creative culinary exploration! What colour wall tiles should we put up?

This stupid blogger bugger of a thing won't let me choose a title for some reason...anyways.

So this weekend was rough. I took a half day, and Bill and I filled an entire skip (I wish I'd taken a photo) which is like a dumpster for you Canadians with about 300kgs of wood, an old cooker, bathtub, and plaster...it may even have been closer to 400kgs. Then we started the painting.

We painted the kitchen ceiling, and the bathroom ceiling, and Isla (Bill's girlfriend) came round as well to lend a helping hand...or two. She did a fantastic job painting the edges, while Bill painted the kitchen ceiling.

After all that hard work we then went for an Idian...and a few drinks before returning at 10:30 at night to put another coat of paint on the ceilings.

Then Sat morning Pen was up first and went over to let in Liam and Darren to start putting our kitchen in....while Bill, Isla and myself slept off our drinks for another hour or two. The morning wasn't going well. We had to get two Pelmets (bits of trim under the cupboards) as we had 3 but needed 5...and almost every store we tried was out! We finally found one half an hour away...so we had to rush to get them, and the electrician was going to put the new lights up in the kitchen and the bathroom...so we had to rush to get them as well. Not a good start to the day! We planned to meet Bill and Isla at Tesco's for breakfast...except by the time we got everything we needed....breakfast was over! Boooo, so Penny and I drove to see if we could get a fridge/ freezer...and Bill and Isla left for their home...and beds likely!

Penny and I spent all day Saturday and All day Sunday either running around getting stuff for the flat, or cleaning, ripping, painting and smashing things. I'm shattered now! Burnt a fair few calories though! We honestly have only been home to James street to sleep over the weekend!

So the question is ...... how much better or worse...are the ceilings painted white...and with the new lights? Or is it not really any different? You'll have to scroll back cuz I'm not posting before and after shots for all these piccies!!

Helper Isla in sweeping mode

Ever diverse....Isla in painting mode now!

I went back and got a photo...this is a skip, filled with lots of heavy things to be recycled

This is helper Bill who helped me fill the skip. He's in I'm finished ... lets have a Magners mode!
Penny and I will be eating and sleeping out of this room temporarily until we get more rooms liveable!!

The main bedroom....with a lot of clutter!

A slightly tidier main bedroom, notice the plaster where the old fireplace used to be?

The front bedroom needing to get wallpaper stripped off the ceiling...go Pen go!

The aftermath of peeling wallpaper off the ceiling in the front bedroom

The results....a clear ceiling with no ugly sticky wallpaper!

Our newly painted bathroom ceiling...and the new light? Thoughts?

The kitchen duo...Liam and Darren...putting your kitchens where you want them.

The old fluorescent light in the kitchen is gone...these are in. What do you think? What about the ceiling? Better wood, or better white? See the older photo's for a comparison.

Kitchen Cabinets going in...slowly but steadily

Plaster Princess Penny

And the results of Penny's prime plastering performance...a smoothly plastered wall, where previously a pathetically porous opening was presented

We almost have a kitchen sink again! Much better than before I'm sure you'd agree!

Still a gaping hole in the bathroom...kinda tricky when ya need to pee.

Yup this is the bedroom and the kitchen for the next little while!

Our new 6 jet whirlpool bathtub...lets hope it fits!

What are we going to do with that hideous boiler? Ah, in the background a kitchen is forming.

I love it when a plan comes together.

The bathroom saga part 3

The bathroom is definetely getting the biggest change. The plan is to create more room by knocking out a closet.

The white door on the left that's split in two...with the top half part open? Well that is a little cupboard with access from the living room. It houses our water tank for the old boiler.

If you imagine real hard you can imagine this as a cupboard. Instead now its just a big hole in the wall that looks into the bathroom. Well the bottom half does...the top half still has plasterboard on it...and an old shower!

So before we knocked out the back of the cupboard this is what it looked like.....

Now that we've knocked out most of the cupboard...here is the new view...minus a panel of plasterboard that we used to fill a hole in the kitchen!
And my trusty assistants Penny and Super Gavin will demonstrate that there is nothing there!!
Notice the bathtub earlier as well?
Let me refresh your memory!

Notice the lack of bath? Wait till you see the new one...can anyone say 6 jet whirlpool?

A kitchen a living room and a boiler

The way it was.....note the mess of pipes, ugly boiler and there are holes in the wall by the boiler, although hard to see in the photo.
Look no hideous old boiler, and new pipes in the corner! The mess of pipes is gone, plus a wee bit of plaster stolen from the bathroom to fix the kitchen...handy!

New boiler in a rather inconvenient place, pain in the ass I tell ya! Ugly too, though not as ugly as the last one.

Behind Gavin is the mess that is our living room! The old bath, waiting to be chucked out, and the new bath waiting to go in!

Super Gavin, our "Heating Engineer" doesn't like it when I say our plumber...sorry Gavin. Brilliant job so far!
