Okay, we knew it wasn't going to be fun, but it had to be done. We had firm objectives...tile the bathroom, put up a sliding door and get the grouting of the tiles overwith. The problem with the sliding door was that you could see the sliding mechanism through the doorway, so we built a wooden box to artificially lower the doorway and hide the sliding mechanism from view from outside the bathroom...inside it will be covered by a pelmet.

Ignoring Penny's...grimace? for a moment, you'll note the tiles are white along the bottom row.

A clearer photo...white tiles along the bottom....

Now note the blue tiles along the bottom? Which look better?

Ah, a happy woman, love is in the air...

And with a hunk like that is it any wonder?

The finished product, grouted and ready for showering...

This is the lowered box before we painted it.

Same box after painting, but from the inside...

Unpainted box with Penny sanding wood putty on the door frame

Behold a sliding door is born! What do you think?

yeah, so um...why did we need to lower the doorframe? Oh yeah, if you look carefully you can see that you could have seen about an inch of the sliding mechanism without the box...so a piece of wood nailed to the doorframe would have done....but no...we created a 6 inch monster. Ahhh dear.

Look, a door! And it closes! You wouldn't believe how exciting this is...we've actually been closing it just brushing our teeth...just for the feel of a closed bathroom...except for the gaping hole that looks into the livingroom....but all in good time!
